The main building has a round tower, called the « hospital ». It is considered to have been an extension of the hospital in Macon.
Due to the renovation of the roof of the tower the bracket and support strut are no longer in evidence.
La Charité is a typical building of the early 16th century, while the adjoining buildings are from the 19th century.
The « bailli » was under the monarchy, an officer of jurisdiction representing the authority of the king or the prince for the « bailliage » who controlled jurisdiction and administration under his name. This was the equivalent of our prefect nowadays.
